Woman Killed In Crash On I-80/94

PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Ind. (STMW) -- A three-car accident Saturday on eastbound Interstate 80/94 in Pleasant Township killed a woman, Indiana State Police said.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. near the 30-mile marker and closed the eastbound lanes until 7:20 p.m., according to Trooper Gary Runde. Traffic was getting by on the shoulder.

Runde said the crash occurred in an area where traffic was slowing due to a separate crash farther east on the highway. Multiple smaller crashes also occurred in the slowed traffic.

"It's been a mess out there," he said.

Police are investigating the wreck to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said the woman who was killed was one of seven people in a minivan that was involved in the crash. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. Her name was being withheld pending notification of family members.
