CARY (CBS) — Police got a bit of a surprise during a drug bust earlier this week.

In addition to arresting a Cary man on Wednesday for a secret, indoor marijuana-growing operation, police discovered a five-foot alligator inside the home.

Nicholas Cosmano, of the 7200 block of Owl Way, was charged with three felony counts of possession of cannabis after police found 16 marijuana plants, marijuana growing equipment and drug paraphernalia, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

The five-foot alligator was turned over to the McHenry County Animal Control Office and authorities are reviewing the case for possible ordinance violations.

Bond for Cosmano was set at $25,000
