Man Arrested After Threatening Roommate With Machete

EVANSTON (CBS) -- An argument between two north suburban roommates last Friday evening resulted in one man threatening the other with a machete, police said.

The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. in an apartment on the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston, according to Evanston police.

One of the two men was having guests over that night and wanted the other man to leave for the evening, Evanston police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

"The guy said, 'I'm not leaving,' " and the two got into an argument.

The man who wanted the apartment to himself for the night took out a machete, told his roommate he was going to kill him, and swung the machete at a door, police said.

Police arrested machete-wielding James Crawford Richmond, 52, of 1935 Dodge.

He was charged with aggravated assault and was expected in court in Skokie on Wednesday.

The roommate was not injured, but the door was damaged, Guenther said.
