Baby Shot In Leg, Apparently By Older Brother

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A baby boy was taken to the hospital Wednesday night after being shot in the leg at a home in Englewood.

A 7-month-old boy was shot in the leg around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday at 6328 S. Laflin St.

Sources said it appeared to be an accidental shooting and that an older brother, perhaps as old as 10, was the one who fired the gun.

Fire Department officials said the boy was shot on his left side, with wounds to his leg.

The baby was taken to University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition. It appeared the boy was going to be okay.

Police confiscated several guns from the home.

Neighbors described a chaotic scene as police rushed in to assist.

"The street was covered with police, the fire truck and the ambulance," Gale Moore said. "And about 5 or 10 minutes later, they brought the baby out, covered. ... And then the cover blew off and it was a baby."

In the 911 call about the shooting, sources said a woman's voice could be heard saying "My baby's been shot by my son."

Police continued to investigate late Wednesday night.
