Homeowner Shoots, Wounds Burglar In South Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A homeowner shot and wounded a burglar early Monday morning in the back yard of his South Chicago neighborhood home.
Police officers on patrol noticed a man lying on the sidewalk on the 3000 block of East 91st Street around 1:45 a.m., police said. The man was bleeding from his leg.
Around the same time, police received a call from a nearby resident who had been woken up by a security alarm. The resident noticed a burglar in the back yard, rummaging through scrap metal.

The homeowner shot the man in the left leg with a .22-caliber rifle and the burglar tried to flee, according to police.
The officers who found the man lying on the sidewalk followed a trail of blood back to the home where the burglary occurred, in the same 3000 block of East 91st Street.
The suspect was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in stable condition, police said.
He had not been charged as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.
