Man With Long Arrest Record Held In iPhone Robberies

CHICAGO (CBS) — Police are holding a man with 53 prior arrests, who now faces charges of robbing at least three people of their iPhones.

Michael Roberson, 28, is charged in connection with three separate robberies of iPhones. He is also being looked at as a suspect in at least eight others, police said.

Roberson was arrested Monday by Near North District officers.

He has 53 arrests on his criminal record, including two felony convictions. He was being processed Tuesday afternoon, police said.

In one of the robberies, Roberson is accused of hitting the victim in the forehead before nabbing his iPhone.

Police have not said whether the iPhone robberies that Roberson allegedly committed occurred on the street, on public transit, or elsewhere.

Police have been warning in recent months of a rash of “Apple picking,” — robbing people for their Apple technology such as the iPhone or the iPod – on CTA train stops.

Obviously, after 53 arrest and 2 convictions, most of the prosecutors should be fired and most of the judges impeached. I’m sure he’ll do at least 6 months and be out ripping people off within a year for this one–what a travesty of justice!

@Tom – thank the liberal judges for allowing animals like this to get a pass!!

If manufacturers included a function that could permanently disable a cell phone when properly reported stolen by the rightful owner smart phone thefts would stop happening with-in a week-Thieves won’t bother stealing something that can be turned into a worthless piece of plastic minutes after getting stolen and nobody would be tempted to buy them.

The government should give free smart phones to all the unfortunates who can afford them

This guy is obviously comfortable being in jail. If we made the experience a little less comfortable, maybe no cable TV, no TV or movies at all, and only 2 meals per day? Plus a reading and writing proficiency requirement to get out, we would not have thugs like this doing all they can to get locked up.

They do. It is called the HTC EVO with Sprint. My phone was not recovered, but I tracked it to a church in Wheeling, IL. It fell off my belt clip a few miles away. The finder must have been too embarrassed to admit having taken it being a christian and all.
Thanks to the GPS locates, accurate to within 6 feet, whomever took the phone knows how much they hurt me.

Back on point. This guy is what prison was invented for. Also how about exploding cell phones?

PHILADELPHIA — Mayor Michael A. Nutter, telling marauding black youths “you have damaged your own race,” imposed a tougher curfew Monday in response to the latest “flash mob” — spontaneous groups of teens who attack people at random on the streets of the city’s tourist and fashionable shopping districts.
