'Willie Wonka' Cast Celebrates 40-Year Anniversary Of Film In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- We all remember the Oompa Loompas--and the film that made them famous: "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" turns 40 this year.

The movie's cast, all grown up, is in Chicago this weekend to help fans celebrate.

She was 13-years-old when she played the role of gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde. Denise Nickerson recalls the set of "Willy Wonka" was more that just a set.

"Awesome, and here we are 40 years later," she said. "And, what you all see on film, doesn't even match ... just more vibrant, more exciting."

Peter Ostrum who played the hero, Charlie Bucket, looks back on Wonka, based on the classic book by Roald Dahl, "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory," thankful to have created a family tradition.

"It has a special place in their heart," he said. "It was the first film they saw with their father, their brother, sister, whatever. But there's some connection."

The cast will appear Friday and Sunday at Hollywood Boulevard Cinema, 1001 West 75th St. in Woodridge. On Saturday, they will be at Hollywood Palms Cinema 352 South Rt. 59 in Naperville.
