Sharp: Hamilton Can Be Rose's Robin

(WSCR) Richard "Rip" Hamilton isn't the player he used to be.

It would be impossible for the 33-year-old veteran to play as he did when he was in his early 20s. Though, according to one NBA expert, Hamilton still has something to offer, as the Bulls appear to be the front-runner to sign Hamilton.

"The Chicago Bulls are the perfect team for him," Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "What Rip Hamilton cannot do is be the primary option in the back court. He's better being Robin to a team that as a Batman. When Chauncey Billups was there (in Detroit), Rip was perfect in his role as No. 2. But when Chauncey got traded for (Allen) Iverson three seasons ago, they made Rip Hamilton the No. 1 guy on that team... He fell apart. He couldn't handle the responsibility that came with that role. He doesn't have to worry about that with the Bulls. This is Rose's team."

Should the Bulls be concerned with Hamilton's age?

"No, he's still in tremendous physical shape," Sharp said. "This is a guy who can out run everyone else in the league, still. Mentally is the thing with Rip. He has to be in the right environment. That environment means he cannot be the No. 1 option."
