Report: Cubs To Completely Rebuild, Won’t Sign Fielder

(CBS) Not only are the Cubs not players for Prince Fielder, but Theo Epstein plans to completely rebuild, according to CSNChicago’s David Kaplan.

In a report on, Kaplan says “a complete and total rebuild of the Cubs is more likely than ever to take place during the remainder of the off-season.”

Kaplan cites two sources that confirm the Cubs will not offer free agent first baseman Prince Fielder a contract. In fact, those sources “expect the Cubs to try to move most of their valuable assets before spring training and that a complete overhaul of the team will definitely happen.”

The report also indicates pitcher Sean Marshall is on the trading block, but a deal with Cincinnati for Travis Wood is not as close as some reports have indicated.

We’ll see about that. Fielder hasn’t signed with anyone yet.

Does this mean 12 is gone? Not that he’s valuable to the Cubs or anyone else.

Marshall is one guy who is worth keeping. He’s been alright.

Does this also mean Z is gone? Pretty please.

I still say put Big Z at first!!!!!!!

I like that idea, I have thought about it. I bet he would hit 280 and have 25-30 home runs. I like the the rebuild thing too, get as many young, athletic players as you can. Players that can actually catch the ball, gee that will make the pitching better too. You can’t keep doing what Hendry tried, it didn’t work. Be patient and give Theo a chance. He knows more than than we do. Merry Christmas.

    104 years….105 years…..106 years…..

    Ha ha ha!

Glad you are getting a laugh, but it is just baseball, I just want to see a change in the way they do things. Get some young exciting players, and see what happens. Life goes on either way. Both Cubs and Sox are stuck with some bad contracts, but both teams seem to be in the rebuilding mode. Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

This report may be true, but this is why Kaplan isn’t too trustworthy. It states that the reports says the Marshall trade isn’t as close as other reports indicate, then he was traded two hours later. I’m actually surprised WSCR cited David Kaplan in the report. Kaplan’s tune changes every two days anyway.

Hey Sox Fan! You act like the Sox have won many championships. You’ve thrown as many world series as you’ve won; or close anyway!

  • Jim

This baseball season is going to be unwatchable on both sides of town. Bummer. And until the Cubs win something, I don’t have to give Epstein any credit or be patient with anything he does. I don’t understand why he is the savior any more than Dusty or Lou or MacPhail…..

  • tom

i think the cubs should change the culture and dump the players who did not produce and were paid too much due to prior moves. this may mean a few down years but in the long run it will be much better for the team and the cub fans.

hey forrest, 2005 is better than 1908 idiot.
