Stefanski, 58, died in his home last week after a long illness, according to a news release from the Chicago Archdiocese.

Stefanski held a Master’s in Divinity, Licentiate of Sacred Theology, and A Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Chicago.

From 1979 to 1997, Stefanski served as associate pastor for several area churches. They included St. Mary Parish, 1012 Lake St. in Evanston; St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, 6435 S. Kilbourn Ave.; St. Luke Parish, 528 Lathrop Ave. in River Forest; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 708 W. Belmont Ave.

Stefanski also served as chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, and worked for 13 years as a counselor and psychologist for Catholic Charities’ Holbrook Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy, which has several locations throughout the area.

Francis Cardinal George will not attend the funeral, as he is on vacation, according to an Archdiocese spokeswoman.
