 2012 Score Search

1. Why do you want to work for 670 The Score? I was introduced to radio broadcasting during my freshman year at Glenbrook North High School. It quickly became my passion as I spent hours in the broadcasting room learning important skills. My favorite part of the week was hosting my weekly shows. After high school, I majored in Radio Broadcasting at Columbia College Chicago. My goal after graduation was to host a sports talk radio show in Chicago. Because of the talented hosts and in-depth content, The Score is the best radio station in America. That’s why hosting a talk show on The Score about how sports affect my life, as well as fellow Chicagoans’ lives, would be a dream come true.
2. In regards to Chicago sports, what do you have the most knowledge and interest in? Throughout my childhood, I spent more time watching the Chicago Bulls than watching anything else on television During their 90′s title runs, I developed a true love and appreciation for the sport, and the years since, tough as some of them have been, have engrained in me how difficult it is to become a champion. Good years or bad, I continue to watch every Bulls game that I can from at home or at the United Center.
3. What is your favorite sports memory of all time?My favorite memory is watching Devin Hester return the opening kick off of Super Bowl XLI. During the two weeks between the NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl, my nerves began to build, so by kickoff, they were at an all-time high. In thirteen seconds, all of my anxiety evaporated. As Hester ran down the field, I was jumping up and down with my friends as if the game was won. My heart was pounding; I thought I was having a heart attack. Even though the Bears didn’t win, I’ll never forget that moment.
4. If you could share one thing about yourself to Score listeners, what would it be? Despite the fact that I bleed Cubbie Blue, in 2005, I went out with a few friends to watch the White Sox clinch the World Series. I went because I wanted to support my friends as they rooted for the team they love. While watching the White Sox win did not bring me the same happiness that’d come with a Cubs title, seeing my friends get to celebrate something that they wanted for so long was a great experience. When the Cubs finally win one of these years – or decades – hopefully my friends will be there to reciprocate …
5. Which 670 The Score on-air personality do you admire most? Why? I admire Laurence Holmes because of the path he took to become a radio personality. He worked his way up at The Score starting as a producer and now is a both a radio and television personality. Besides respecting his dedication to his career and craft, I think he puts on an entertaining and informative radio show. Laurence always shares with his audience what is meaningful to him, whether that is comic books, video games or a tournament for attractive cougars. As a listener, I feel like he truly enjoys every single minute he spends talking on air with his Chicago audience.
6. Why would listeners want to listen to your show? I am candid, thoughtful, quick-witted and ready to share my ideas. I trained at both The Improv Olympics and Second City, which provided me with the skills that will enable me to have fun on the radio and engage the audience as if I was sitting in their car or living room. Additionally, I can relate to the audience because I have lived in Chicago my entire life, so The Score’s audience and I have shared many of the same experiences.
7. If you could meet one sports figure, who would it be and why? Magic Johnson’s accomplishments on and off the court make him one of the most fascinating sports figures in the world. Magic is one of the greatest players in NBA history. His brand of basketball was fun to watch, and he played on some of the best teams in the history of the NBA. Magic participated in one of the greatest rivalries of all time and witnessed first-hand the rise of the greatest player in the history of basketball. He also experienced great personal adversity, which he used to create awareness for an incredibly important cause. Magic used his celebrity in a positive way by helping change the world’s perception of AIDS and HIV through sharing his public-fight against the disease. On top of all of this, Magic has become a wildly successful business mogul. He is creative and believed in businesses that other savvy entrepreneurs were afraid to take a chance on. Magic would truly be a joy to talk with.
8. What is your favorite sports team? The Cubs are my favorite team. The Cubs have brought me my highest highs and my lowest lows as a sports fan. If I ever have the chance to see the Cubs win a World Series, I have no doubt it would be one of the happiest moments of my life.
9. How would your life change if you were chosen as the 2012 Score Search winner? My dream since I took my first radio broadcasting class in high school has been to host a sports radio show in Chicago. After graduating from college, I spent a few years trying to make it in this industry. Eventually, I had to make ends meet, so I took a different path. Choosing to stop pursuing a career in radio was one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make, which is why when I heard about this potentially life-changing opportunity, I knew I had to give radio one more try. To do what I love, and to do it professionally would truly be a dream come true.
