18-Year-Old Woman Sexually Assaulted Near Logan Square Theater

CHICAGO (CBS) – Police on Sunday said they were talking with several persons of interest Sunday following the brutal sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in the Logan Square neighborhood.

Residents of 2100 block of North Rockwell Street, where the victim was found, unconscious and partially clothed -- believe she was raped and attacked by at least three men around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, after being turned away from a New Year's Eve show at the nearby Congress Theater.

Danny Medina walked out his front door to a sea of police lights and the motionless body of a young woman lying in his parkway.

People in the Logan Square neighborhood, where it all happened, say three men were taken into custody right after neighbors found the young woman, CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports.

They say one of the attackers may have told security at the nearby theater that she was lying near the street.

Initially, police needed help identifying the young woman, who slipped into a coma.  They now say she is 18 years old and in critical condition.

What still isn't known is if she knew her attackers or if they had just met her in the minutes before assaulting her.

Neighbors say they believe police are still looking for at least three more attackers, bringing the total of those responsible to six.
