Vehicle Drives Onto Brown Line Tracks, Catches Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A vehicle drove onto Brown Line tracks, hit the third rail and caught fire Sunday morning, causing major delays.

The driver drove the vehicle onto ground-level tracks at 4848 N. Kedzie Ave., where the vehicle caught fire, according to Fire Media Affairs. The incident happened sometime before 5:30 a.m. Fire Media did not give an exact time.

The driver got out with no injuries, the CTA shut off power to the area and a tow truck was working about 6:15 a.m. to remove the vehicle, Fire Media said.

The incident caused major delays on the Brown Line, according to a CTA alert sent about 5:30 a.m.

Service was restored with residual delays about 6:40 a.m.

CTA recommended passengers allow for extra travel time Sunday morning.
