Man Dies After Being Pulled From Lake

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man pulled from Lake Michigan Sunday afternoon on the North Side has died at an area hospital.

Emergency personnel responded at 2:54 p.m. to Pratt Beach -- just east of the 6800 block of North Sheridan Road -- and divers pulled a man from the water within minutes, authorities said.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was treading water near a pier and witnesses were talking to him when he went under water and disappeared, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

Paramedics initially took the man in critical condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Sunday night the man has died. His identity was not yet being released.
