Report: Cubs In Serious Talks To Trade Garza To Detroit

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Cubs are in serious talks with the Detroit Tigers to trade away pitcher Matt Garza for a package of prospects, according to a published report.

David Kaplan of Comcast SportsNet reports that “excellent baseball sources” have confirmed to him that the Cubs are “down the road” in trade talks with the Tigers.

Kaplan says the Tigers are willing to meet the Cubs’ asking price of multiple high-regarded prospects, unlike the New York Yankees, who wanted Garza but balked at the price.

Some sources, including Matt Snyder of CBS Sports, believe the trade is likely connected with the Cubs’ signing of pitcher Paul Maholm, most recently of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cub quota for Hispanics is one. Have to trade for more white guys.

And your quota for being somewhat intelligent is zero. Mr. Garza is an American-born Mexican athlete with tremendous talent and is a real sociable factor to the clubhouse. What do you bring to the table, aside from brain-dead attempts at humor?

Drew Smyly and Andrew Oliver consider it done.

Garza is a luxury. I’d make the trade.

    • Jose

I wouldn’t. I’d leave the pitching alone and focus on trading Soriano.

I know we’re supposed to be patient and that Epstoyer has a plan, but this team is going to be really bad for at least 4 years. I have to wonder how they plan to continue to fill the seats, especially in August and September when the team is 16 games out.

You have to stay positive. Maybe cleaning up shop would boost chemistry and clear minds? Baseball is a game of numbers and the only way to achieve those numbers is by staying focused and playing the game.
