Arkush: Forte Playing In Pro Bowl 'Idiotic'

(WSCR) Though he's been cleared by the Bears to play in the Pro Bowl, not everyone thinks it's smart for Matt Forte to participate.

Forte missed the Bears' last four games of the season with a sprained MCL, but has since been cleared to play.

"It's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard," Hub Arkush told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I don't even understand why guys who are healthy play in the Pro Bowl. I think the whole game is a farce. I don't know what Forte is thinking. If he thinks that this helps show his love of the game or willingness to play, or showcases him in any way for another team -- other teams will think this is a stupid, as the we and the Bears think this is. There is absolutely no reason for him to play in the Pro Bowl."

Forte's contract with the Bears will expire at the end of the current league year, and Hub thinks the Bears will ultimately franchise tag the running back.

"I think when you get a new GM, you get new decision," Arkush said. "The franchise tag, even though it's going to be lower than last year, is still going to be in the vicinity of $8 million. The Bears have other things they have to fix, but still, (there's probably a) 90, 95 percent chance they will."
