Johnson On Rose: 'I Think He's Going To Play Soon'

(WSCR) Derrick Rose has missed three straight games -- the longest stretch of his young career.

While a sprained toe and back spasms continue to hamper the reigning MVP, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune thinks Rose will be back in the next few games.

"I think he's going to play very soon.," Johnson told The Mully and Hanley Show. "I actually asked him last night if he regretted playing in New Orleans (Feb. 8) because I know that's been the issue. He said if he was feeling badly now, then he'd regret it, but since he's not feeling badly now and he's close to playing, he doesn't regret it. ... I know he's missed three games and it's been a high-profile story, but I think he's going to be back soon. It's a muscular issue, not a structural issue."

In Tuesday's win over the Kings, the Bulls surrendered a season-high 115 points and saw their 19-point lead shrink to just two points. Johnson said that is all part of this shortened NBA schedule.

"I think basically what's happening is you're seeing a reflection of all the injuries and guys having to play different roles to kind of catch up to this team," he said. "Obviously, reserves are having to play starter's minutes. That's affecting some bench roles and some combinations in rotations. I think when you combine that with the lack of practice time given how goofy of a season this is, I think you're starting to see some slippage, especially on the defensive end with this team. With that said, they're winning games. So, you gotta kind of balance the two, but they're certainly not playing as well as they did maybe like a month ago."
