Man Shot Dead By Police In Waukegan

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) -- An investigation is underway after police shot and killed an armed suspect in far north suburban Waukegan.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn Express in the 600 block of Lakehurst Road in Waukegan. Police had been called to the scene to check out reports of a man with a gun.

When police arrived, the man -- identified as John Corcoran, 34, of Waukegan -- pulled out the handgun. One of the officers opened fire when the suspect refused to drop it.
Corcoran was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:20 p.m., according to Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey.
Preliminary investigation by the coroner's office confirms he suffered a gunshot, but the cause and manner of death will not be official until an autopsy is performed Friday morning, Yancey said.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.
