Why Divorce Lawyers See A Surge In Business In March

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If February is the month for love, March is the month for divorce.

Actually, divorce lawyers are in love with March, according to lawyer Michael Helfand, who writes the Chicago's Real Law Blog for Chicago Now.

The reason? People start getting their tax refunds and use that money to hire a divorce lawyer.

Helfand has spent 11 years referring clients for specific legal needs. He says March is easily the busiest month for divorce lawyer requests.

"There really isn't any legal issue more predictable than this," Helfand wrote. "Around the holidays many people decide that they are going to make this change in their life, and around this time of year the filings go crazy."

Just last Thursday alone, Helfand said he took seven straight calls from people fed up with their marriage and who are now ready to rumble in divorce court.
