Lincolnwood School Board Member Quits After Failed Tax Push

LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. (CBS) -- Another school board member has resigned from the board at Lincolnwood School District 74, in the wake of a tax referendum that went down to defeat by a 9-to-1 margin.

Amy Frankel submitted her resignation Monday night. She had been president of the District 74 board for only a couple months, since David Koder resigned in February.

Newly re-elected board member Darlene Fourkas is the new president.

Frankel's resignation leaves three holdover board members and three who are newly selected.

Joel Perzov has been a critic of the board and its policies and said he is "not at all surprised" by the resignations.

"What surprises me more is that several board members have failed to resign, because there's a tremendous lack of confidence in their leadership," Perzov said.

The board has 45 days to fill the vacancy.

Perzov says opponents hope that whomever is chosen will oppose proposals for a new school building.

In addition to filling a vacant seat on the board, the remaining board members also must seek replacements for School Supt. Mark Klaisner and Asst. Supt. Susan Brandt. Klasiner resigned and Brandt announced her immediate retirement following defeat of the referendum.
