(CBS) Bears linebacker Nick Roach won the team’s Brian Piccolo Award Tuesday, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication and sense of humor of former Bears player Brain Piccolo.

The team also selects a rookie winner for the award and defensive tackle Stephen Paea accepted that honor.

Piccolo played four seasons with the Bears starting in 1965. He died June 16, 1070 at the age of 26 from embryonal cell carcinoma.

Six current Bears have won the award, including Matt Forte (2008), Devin Hester (2006), Johnny Knox (2009), Charles Tillman (2003 and 2008), Brian Urlacher (2000 and ’07) and J’Marcus Webb (2010).
