Zion Man Faces Murder, Kidnapping Charges

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been arrested in Lake County on charges that he murdered a woman in Georgia and kidnapped another to make a cross-country dash up north.

Originally from Zion, authorities say 22-year-old Cristian De La O Hernandez was in the Atlanta area at a dance club a week ago and met two women.

Police say the women went with him to another bar.

At some point, Hernandez shot and killed one of the women and forced the other to come with him and a male friend to the Chicago area.

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran says the woman managed to send a text to a friend--and she called police.

"We knew what we were doing, and we were able to have to element of surprise, so nothing transpired as far as any type of hostage situation or shootout," Curran said.

Curran says Hernandez and his male friend, Jose Juarez-Vidales, were arrested without incident at a motel in Beach Park.
