Man Allegedly Beats Pregnant Girlfriend

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) - Police in southwest suburban Joliet say a man beat a woman who is 8 months pregnant and kept her from seeking medical treatment.

Cmdr. Al Roechner said the 21-year-old victim arrived at Provena Saint Josephs Medical Center about 7 p.m. Sunday and said she had been with Damon Stanislaus, 30 the night before in the 3600 block of Buck Ave.

"She'd been sleeping there when Stanislaus, her boyfriend of nine months, woke her up, accused her of cheating on him and proceeded to punch her in the face and body," Roechner said.

Stanislaus, who the victim claimed was under the influence of narcotics, reportedly took her cell phone and car keys to prevent her from leaving his house.

When he later went to the bathroom, she was able to get those items and drive herself to the hospital. She is expected to recover from her injuries.

Stanislaus was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery and interfering with reporting domestic violence.
