CHICAGO (CBS) — I knew it would happen. It had to happen – that Chicago would become an issue in the presidential campaign, that Mitt Romney would bark at President Barack Obama about being from Chicago.
“The president only has one thing going, and that is constant attacks on me. They’re dishonest. They’re misdirected. And I think the American people recognize that kind of politics as something of the past. It may work in Chicago, but it’s not going to work across America,” Romney said this week.
That sounds insulting to Chicago, so I called the Romney press office to ask what Mitt means by what he says about Chicago.
I got no answer, so I left a message. No call back, so I tried an email, and got this back:
“Thank you for contacting me about our nation’s economy. I believe in America.”
But what about what you say about politics in Chicago?
“My plan is to rebuild the foundations of the economy,” the email said.
That’s the politics of Mitt Romney. Ask what he means by what he says, no way you’ll get an answer.
