CHICAGO (STMW) – Three men are dead and at least 18 other people wounded from gun violence across the city since Friday night.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting happened in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard, after a man intervened in a domestic argument between the suspect and a woman, police said. The suspect left to get a handgun, then returned about 12:50 a.m. and opened fire, striking the man and two other people.

Akil Partee, 19, of the 5900 block of West Lake Street was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. A 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and is in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. A 20-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken in fair condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Authorities think the gunman may have shot the men from a light-colored vehicle.

Another man died after he was shot in the abdomen in the 4200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue at 1:46 a.m, police said. Pablo Hernandez, 41, of the 3500 block of South 60th Court in Cicero, was pronounced dead at Masonic at 3:37 a.m., according to medical examiner’s office.

About 6 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Wood Street, a 37-year-old man was shot by a man he had apparently been in a fight with earlier in the morning, police said. The other man returned to the scene with a semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots at the victim, police said. The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. The shooting may have been gang-related.

At least 17 other people were hurt in shootings on the South and West Sides since about 8 p.m. Friday evening. Most were in stable condition, but five people remained in serious or critical condition late Saturday morning.

Authorities did not immediately disclose motives for most of the shootings, though police said one stemmed from an argument between two men during a dice game and other shootings were believed to be either gang- or drug-related.

A 47-year-old man not involved in the argument in the 2800 block of Roosevelt Road was shot in the leg about 11:30 p.m. after one of the participants pulled a gun on another man. He was taken in “guarded” condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Another shooting happened during a West Side carjacking, in the 2800 block of West Division Street, police said. A passenger was shot while trying to flee the vehicle after the armed suspect got in the driver’s seat about 12:30 a.m.

Police recovered the vehicle nearby, but the suspect was not in it. The passenger, a 22-year-old man, was in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the mouth.

About 12:15 a.m., a 15-year-old boy suffered a gunshot to the arm when one of four males in a passing car said something to him then opened fire on the 12800 block of South Peoria Street, police said. He was in “stable” condition at Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island.

About 2:45 a.m. a 21-year-old man was walking in the 900 block of North Latrobe Avenue when someone came out of a gangway and opened fire, striking the victim multiple times, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said.

About 3:30 a.m., a 31-year-old man was walking north in the 2900 block of North Lawndale Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. The man then discovered he had been shot in the buttocks. He was taken to Illinois Masonic, where his condition was stable, police said. Witnesses in the area saw a dark-colored vehicle heading northbund in the wrong direction down the one-way street, as gunshots were heard, according to police.

A man was wounded in a shooting in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood Saturday afternoon. The shooting happened in the 300 block of West 115th Street about 12:43 p.m., police said. The man walked into Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, according to police. Police did not immediately have any additional information or details on his condition.
