CHICAGO (CBS) — A death investigation is underway, after a body was found in an abandoned South Austin neighborhood building Tuesday night.

Police came to the building in the 4800 block of West Jackson Boulevard at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving calls of a foul odor.

Police originally said the body was that of a woman. But the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office described the deceased person as “a man dressed as a woman.” It is not clear whether this means a transgender woman.

The deceased person — believed to be in his or her 20s — appeared to have suffered trauma, the medical examiner’s office said, adding that an autopsy conducted on Wednesday would help determine an official cause of death.

The person remained unidentified as of early Wednesday.

The Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.
