CHICAGO (CBS) — Patti Blagojevich says she got an anniversary gift better than flowers from her imprisoned husband.
On her Facebook page, Illinois’ former first lady posted excerpts of a letter she received from Rod Blagojevich for their 22nd wedding anniversary.
From his prison cell where he’s serving a 14-year sentence, the Sun-Times quoted the former governor as writing, “What a blessing you gave me. I am sorry for you though. Why did you ever say yes?”
He told her that they had really have been blessed in so many ways.
“I have been blessed to be married to and in love with the best person I have ever known,” he wrote.
And he added an optimistic post script: “What are you doing next year on this day? Can I take you out?”
The former governor has been in prison since March on a corruption conviction.
