Zell, 12 Other Chicagoans Make Forbes' Wealthiest Americans List

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thirteen Chicago billionaires have made Forbes' list of the 400 wealthiest Americans.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, the locals on the list are led by real estate mogul, Equity International co-founder and Tribune Company chairman Sam Zell, who ranks 103rd on the list with a net worth of $3.8 billion,

Also on the list are five members of the Pritzker family, which made its money in hotels and investments; Beanie baby king Ty Warner whose worth is $2.4 billion; food distribution tycoons Jude and J. Christopher Reyes with a combined worth of $4 billion, and Morningstar founder and chief executive officer Joe Mansueto.

Oprah Winfrey, who moved from Chicago last year, is 151st on the list at $2.7-billion.

One Chicago dropout is Groupon's Eric Lefkosky who last year came in at No. 293 but this year didn't make the list as Groupon shares were hammered after the company's initial price offering.

Forbes says the biggest flameouts were the social media moguls, who lost a combined $11 billion in one year. The year's biggest dollar loser was Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose fortune shrank $8 billion but, who still is worth more than $9 billion.
