(CBS) Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September Thursday.

Jennings recorded four interceptions, 18 tackles, one tackle for loss and six pass break ups in the first month of the season. Two of his pass breakups led to interceptions by fellow defensive teammates.

The cornerback’s four interceptions are already a career high. Jennings worked hard in the offseason to improve his hands at the urge of the Bears’ coaching staff. The result has transformed Jennings into one of the better play-making cornerbacks in league through four games.

The Bears as a team rank first in the NFL with 14 takeaways.
