1 Dead, 2 Wounded In Shooting At Park In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and two teens were wounded in a shooting Saturday afternoon at a park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The shooting happened about 12:53 p.m. at Davis Square Park in the 4300 block of South Marshfield Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

One of the victims fled the scene and went home to call police, Mirabelli said.

A 27-year-old man, who was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, died from his injuries, police said.

A representative from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said the man's name was being withheld as officials notify his family.

The other two victims were teenage boys, who were both listed in "stable" condition Saturday afternoon, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago Medical Centers, Mirabelli said.

A 15-year-old boy was shot in the elbow and taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Mirabelli said.

Police said they believe the shooting might be gang-related but did not immediately know know if the man and the two boys were the intended targets.
