(WSCR) There was a day when a 1996 Chevy Caprice was a sweet ride.

That days was some time in 1996.

Still, according to multiple reports, thieves broke into the New York Giants security-guarded parking lot in East Rutherford, N.J. while the team was in San Francisco and stole defensive tackle Marvin Austin’s 1996 Chevy Caprice.

State police spokesman Brian Polite has the explanation as to why on earth someone would steal a car that is more than 15 years old.

“Souped-up versions of the vehicle are popular with sports stars,” Polite said.

At least Austin isn’t driving a 1991 Mazda.
