KANKAKEE COUNTY, Ill. (STMW) – A woman was killed when the car she was driving crashed head-on into a semi truck in northern Kankakee County on Wednesday afternoon, state police said.

About 12:20 p.m., a 2004 Saturn was southbound on Route 50 at 10750 North Kankakee County near Manteno, when it crossed into the northbound lanes, into the path of a 1992 Freightliner hauling a dump trailer, a release from Illinois State Police said.

The two vehicles collided head-on, and the woman driving the Saturn was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP. Her identity was not available as of late Wednesday afternoon, as police were notifying family of her death.

The driver of the Freightliner refused medical treatment.

The crash remained under investigation.
