Driver Dies After Car Plunges Into Water In Lake Villa

LAKE VILLA, Ill. (STMW) -- An 18-year-old driver was killed early Friday after crashing a car through a yard, striking a boatlift, and winding up 50 feet from the shore in Lake Miltmore in north suburban Lake Villa.

At approximately 1:52 a.m., Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to Engle Drive and Nathan Hale Drive near Lake Miltmore in Lake Villa. Sheriff's police say a single vehicle traveling eastbound on Engle Drive crossed over Nathan Hale Drive, drove approximately 200 feet through a yard, struck a boatlift, and came to rest upside down approximately 50 feet into Lake Miltmore.

The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle and make it to shore, according to a release from sheriff's police.

Responding deputies later learned the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Four Lake County Sheriff's deputies entered the water in an attempt to rescue the driver. During the rescue attempt Lake Villa Dive Team arrived and eventually removed the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Angel B. Flores of Lindenhurst.  Paramedics took Flores to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was declared dead, the sheriff's office said. The passenger was also taken to Condell Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
