CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 38-year-old Chicago man faces a felony sex-offense charge after police allege he attempted to strike up an illicit relationship with a girl walking to school in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the South Side.

Alberto Rangel, of the 3000 block of South Hamlin Avenue, was charged with one felony count of child luring, police said.

On Nov. 7, police say Rangel pulled up alongside the girl in a pickup truck about 7:30 a.m. and talked with the girl as she walked through the 2700 block of West 38th Street on her way to school.

Rangel is alleged to have given his phone number to the girl and reportedly asked for her to call him.

When the girl arrived at school, she notified school administrators, who contacted police.

To apprehend Rangel, an undercover officer, posing as the girl, contacted Rangel via text message to set up a meeting, the release states.

Rangel, who was also charged for possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, was arrested Nov. 24.
