(CBS) The White Sox selected infielder Angel Sanchez from the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of Thursday’s Rule 5 Draft.

Sanchez will likely compete for a spot on the major league roster and has experience, appearing in 184 games over three major-league seasons with the Royals (2006), Red Sox (2010) and Astros (2010-11). He’s a career .255 hitter with 54 RBI.

Sanchez signed with the Angels as a minor-league free agent on October 26, 2012 and is currently playing in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
