CHICAGO (CBS) — After riding high all season, a sense of urgency has finally swept though Halas Hall.
The 8-6 Bears have to sweep their final two games and get some help to keep from missing the playoffs for the fifth time in six years.
As CBS 2’s Megan Mawicke reports, the offense must change its offensive ways in Arizona.
With must win games from here on out, the Bears had just a light practice with no helmets on Thursday.
They’re not only banged up physically but seem to be mentally as well.
And offensively they’re still searching for answers.
“I said to myself, what can I do better to help me get better to help us win,” said offensive coordinator Mike Tice. “And that’s the approach I’m taking this week, and we’ve all got to do something better.
“At the end of the day, when you’re on offense, it’s about scoring points.”
Brandon Marshall was the only wide receiver to catch a pass against the Packers last Sunday and the Bears have averaged a mere 14 points in their last six games.
However, he believes theteam can turn it around.
“Winning is contagious and unfortunately losing is too,” Marshall said. “And it’s all about a mindset. You know, I’ve never been to the playoffs so I understand what losing is and I understand what winning is, and this is a winning team.
“So that’s what really frustrates me and other guys. You have guys that fight, you have guys that respond to adversity the right way. We have the guys upstairs and in the locker room to really get it done, and we just need to do it.”
Quarterback Jay Cutler agrees: “We’ve just got to get to nine wins. We can’t go anywhere unless we get to nine, and then once we get to nine, then we can talk about 10. But right now eight isn’t good enough and nine might not be good enough either.”
The pressure is certainly mounting to secure a playoff spot, and there’s plenty at stake over these next two weeks–not only for the players, but also for the coaches and maybe even management.
