Non-Profit Holds Christmas Party For At-Risk Kids

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A big Christmas celebration today for hundreds of underprivileged children in Chicago.

Non-Profit Holds Christmas Party For At-Risk Kids

Non-profit charity Dreams For Kids is hosting the celebration at the Broadway Armory for more than 1,300 at-risk children.

Tom Tuohy founded the organization 1989 and says in many cases, this is the only Christmas celebration they will experience this year.

"They will get a shopping bag full of gifts, there are 3,500 gifts and each kid will get two to three gifts.," said Tuohy. "We have got slides, jumping castles, basketball, we have got athletes for them to meet."

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Reggie Smith and Dallas Maverick Sam Hill, both Chicago natives, will be on hand for the event.

Tuohy says his mentor, Secretary of State Jesse White, is personally driving in busloads of hundreds of kids.

The organization's website is dreamsforkids.org.
