CHICAGO (CBS) — It looked much worse: A Chicago police sport-utility vehicle took out a tree and landed on top of a parked vehicle in the city’s Logan Square neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Fortunately, the police officer, who was responding to a burglary call, emerged from the wreckage and got into an ambulance by himself, CBS 2’s Brad Edwards reports. The officer was taken in good condition to Advocate Masonic Medical Center.

The crash, which involved a third vehicle, occurred around 1:15 p.m. at North Sacramento Avenue and West George Street.

No one else was injured.

The owner of the parked vehicle smothered by the police SUV took the wreck in stride.

“Last night, when I pulled up, I was like, ‘Oh, man, I got a parking spot right in front of my house,’” Trino Ruiz said. “I’m just happy the cop’s all right.”
