Six Killed, 12 Hurt In Weekend Violence

CHICAGO (CBS) -- From Uptown to Englewood, Irving Park to Brighton Park, Humboldt Park to the Back of the Yards, gunshots were heard throughout the city this weekend.

Between Friday afternoon and Sunday night, four people were shot to death and at least 13 people were wounded in shootings in Chicago, including a man shot while riding in a car on the Dan Ryan Expy. Two people were stabbed to death, including a woman allegedly attacked by her daughter and a man outside a liquor store Saturday night.

In the latest fatal shooting, 19-year-old Marcus Turner died after being hit multiple times in the chest about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, police said. Turner, of the 6600 block of South Maryland Avenue, was dead at the scene, police said.

In the Dan Ryan Expy. shooting, Lavonshay Cooper, 22, of the 4200 block of West Cortez, was shot while riding in the back seat of a vehicle in the northbound lanes between the 18th Street and Canal Street exits about 2 a.m. Sunday, Illinois State Police said.

The driver, who was not injured, drove to Rush University Medical Center, where Coooper was pronounced dead. The front seat passenger fled the scene and another man in the back seat was wounded. He was treated at Stroger Hospital and released. State police had no description of the shooters or the car they were in.

A man thought to be in his 20s was shot to death about 3:10 p.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of South Loomis. He was shot multiple times in his abdomen and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

The man had not been identified as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. A suspect was taken into custody but no charges had been announced as of Sunday.

David Kartzmark, 25, of River Grove, was found shot in the chest at 7 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of North Talman in Chicago. He was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m. en route to Norwegian-American Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.

Two people were stabbed to death in Chicago over the weekend.

Taison Moore, 33, of the 2700 block of West 15th Place, died after he was stabbed during a fight outside a liquor store at 7 p.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of West Gladys, police said. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 11:15 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Authorities found Angela Welch, 55, had been stabbed multiple times when they responded to her home about 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the 8300 block of South Kingston in the South Chicago neighborhood.

She was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her daughter, Lonika Welch, 25, of the same address, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police News Affairs. Lonika Welch was expected to appear in bond court Monday.
