Gas Prices Continue To Climb, Highest Ever For Early February

CHICAGO (CBS) — Gas prices keep climbing.

It costs more now to fill your tank than ever before for this time of the year, WBBM Newsradio’s Regine Schlesinger reports.

Gas Prices Spike

The Triple A Chicago says this is a new record: the highest gasoline price ever for the beginning of February.

Prices at many stations in the city are well above $4 a gallon.

According to, you’ll pay $4.29 at the Mobil station at Chicago and Kedzie.

Other stations in the city are hovering around 4.20 and in the suburbs, the lowest price is $3.45 at a Sam’s Club in Northlake.

The Triple A blames this unusual winter spike on rising oil prices – they getting close to $100 a barrel – as well as area refinery issues.

Overall, the Triple A predicts a tamer year for gas prices than in 2012.
