(CBS) The news on Derrick Rose’s possible return continues to be bleak.

When asked after Wednesday’s loss in Boston to predict a timetable for his return, Derrick Rose told a group of reporters, “I really don’t know. It’s feeling good but if it is taking me a long time and I am still not feeling right, I won’t mind missing this year.”

So what will it take to get Rose back on the court?

“Being able to dunk. I can’t dunk, man,” he said. “So I know if I can dunk off stride, I know I’ll be out there playing.”

It wasn’t long ago that many were expecting to see Rose make his return shortly after the All-Star break, which is this weekend. That’s clearly not the timetable Rose has in mind, however.

“I would love to, that is why I approach my rehab and my workouts so hard and trying to get back on the court as quickly as possible, but if I have anything lingering on, it’s no point,” Rose said.
