CHICAGO (CBS) – If you’re looking for some fun snow activities, how about heading to Northerly Island to go snowshoeing?

Snowshoeing is usually offered on winter weekends at Northerly Island, but this hasn’t exactly been a snowy winter; so Northerly Island Center Director Teish Daniel said, “we wanted to take advantage of the snow, and not have it melt away before Saturday got here.”

“This year, we were only able to do it on one day, in the beginning of February, and we had just enough snow to do the snowshoeing,” she added.

Daniel said snowshoeing is being offered until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and again on Thursday if there’s enough snow left.

Snowshoes are available for rental for $5 for two hours.

Daniel says snowshoeing on Northerly Island’s 91 acres is a nice, quiet respite from the hustle of the city. She also says it’s fun to check out the wildlife, from different kinds of birds to rabbits, mice and more.

She says snowshoeing is “exhausting, but it’s fun.”
