20 Years Ago Today Jimmy V Delivered Powerful, Memorable Speech

(CBS) On this day 20 years ago, Jimmy Valvano delivered one of the most powerfully moving speeches in sports history.

Valvano, who had been diagnosed with bone cancer, mustered up the little energy he had left to speak at ESPN’s ESPYs.

“Time is very precious to me,” Valvano said. “I don’t know how much I have left. I have some things that I would like to say. Hopefully, at the end, I’ll have something that will be important to people, too.”

Coach V died less than two months after this speech.

Valvano said it’s important to do three things each day: laugh, think and have your emotions moved to tears.
