Western Springs Police: Couple Tried To Lure Youngsters

(CBS) – Police in west suburban Western Springs are warning parents: An adult couple has tried to lure children to their vehicle.

The community alert sent to school and residents says a man and woman in a white SUV has approached kids.

"They asked the kids to come to the car, to which they did, and asked if they wanted some candy," Deputy Chief of Police Brian Budds tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.

Budds says the goal appears to be "to lure these youths into the car and to perhaps cause harm to them."

It happened on two separate occasions on Saturday night in the affluent suburb.  Western Springs resident Dan Curley's son was approached.

"They came here and my son and my son and a couple buddies were playing basketball and they asked, 'Hey, would you like to make a video?'" said Dan Curley.  "It's weird."

His teenage son thought it might be a prank.

"We sat the kids down and said you guys are pretty young, you can still be taken advantage of," Curley said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Western Springs Police Department at (708) 246-8540.
