Chicago Area Runner Organizing Charity Run For Boston

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago area runner is organizing a run for this coming Monday - to raise money for the victims of the Boston bombings.

Charity Run For Boston

WBBM's Steve Miller reports, Kate Napleton is a runner and has done charity runs before.

But this is different. This hits closer to home.

This is for people in the extended running community injured in Boston.

What touched her, she says, is that it was the spectators who were most profoundly affected - the loved ones of those who run.

"You go down there and there's just hundreds of people at the finish line of a race, and most of them are there to support the people in their lives that they're so proud of for running a race.

"So to injure them, it's just so horrifying. It's almost like you should get out and run because you still can."

Napleton says runners will meet Monday evening at 5:30 at Monroe and the lake. And she says money will go to the Red Cross.
