Suspicious Package Reported At Thorndale Red Line Station
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson determined early Friday that a "suspicious" package left at a North Side CTA station was not, in fact, a threat.
Police dispatched the Bomb and Arson unit to the Thorndale Red Line station at West Thorndale and North Winthrop avenues about 2:40 a.m. after receiving reports of the suspicious package.
Train service to the station was also shut down.
After investigating, it was determined the package was a briefcase that contained "miscellaneous items" that were not explosive, police said.
The scene was cleared by 4:45 a.m., police said.
