(CBS) Bears Pro Bowl defenders Julius Peppers and Charles Tillman were named the veteran recipients of the 2012 Brian Piccolo Award.

Defensive end Shea McClellin was named the rookie winner.

Voted on by players, the award is given out annually to the player who best exemplifies the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication and sense of humor of the late Piccolo, who died of cancer in 1970.

The award was created in 1970, going solely to rookies but was extended to veterans in 1992.
