(CBS) – A former Plainfield resident killed in last week’s deadly West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion was honored Friday at a memorial service for first responders.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Kevin Sanders, a 33-year-old paramedic and firefighter, was among the dead. The blast in West, Texas last week injured hundreds.

Sanders’ family was in Texas Thurdsay for the memorial service, where flag-draped caskets and portraits of the fallen heroes were on display. Sanders’ remains will be returned to the Chicago area with honors.
