CHICAGO (CBS) — An 18-year-old girl was killed on Thursday night in a DUI accident.
The 31-year-old driver of the car, Karlos Leath, is in jail charged with two counts of aggravated DUI.
He was ordered held on $1 million bond.
The victim was identified as Stephanie Pickett of Warrenville.
Leath and Pickett knew each other and lived in the same apartment complex, prosecutors said at a court hearing on Friday morning.
Leath told investigators that he had started drinking on Thursday around noon. His blood alcohol level at the time of the accident was .173.
The single car crash happened last night around 10:30 on Shaffner Road in Wheaton.
Leath’s 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling south and went off the road and rolled over.
Leath, who is unemployed, has a lengthy criminal record and has been arrested 12 times since 2004 on charges that include burglary, obstruction of justice and drug possession, prosecutors said.
