3 Shot, 1 Dead Outside University Of Illinois At Chicago Police Station

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot to death and two others were wounded outside the University of Illinois at Chicago police station late Tuesday night, authorities said.

The three men were near South Morgan and West Maxwell streets, in a parking lot across from the police station, when a gunman approached and opened fire about 10:40 p.m., authorities said.

Tytrell Jackson, 19, of the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, was mortally wounded by a bullet that struck him in the armpit, authorities said. Jackson, a known gang member, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 11:13 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other two men – ages 19 and 21 – were both shot in the thigh, police said. They were also taken to Stroger for treatment, where they were both listed in "stable" condition, police said.

The gunman fled west after the shooting and was not taken into police custody.

Area Central detectives were investigating early Wednesday.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related.
